Episode Four Batch From Scratch - The Brook Family

Catch-em batching this week from Falkirk, Scotland with the Brooks. Mum Erin tries her best to feed her teenage children healthy, balanced meals, but they are not well received, so they often resort to convenience food instead. Coupled with a busy work-life balance, mealtimes have become a real struggle, impacting their health and their pocket. Erin and husband Ally fear they’ll drift apart from the kids when they start to fly the nest. It’s now or never to get mealtimes right for the family.

Watch the episode on Monday 10 March at 8pm on Channel 4 or stream on 4OD after the episode has aired.

Tips that helped the Brook's to Batch Cook

  • 1
    Flavour your own meat

Flavoured meat can cost more so try flavouring your own. All it takes is salt, pepper and some dried herbs.

  • 2
Freeze your leftover fruit & veg

Freezing leftover fruit & veg keeps the nutrients locked in. You can then use them to make delicious soups or smoothies.

  • 3
    Buy frozen pre-prepared vegetables

Save time by buying frozen veggies that are pre-peeled & sliced. Flash-freezed after picking, they’re full of nutrients.

  • 4
Mash is not just for potatoes!

Sweet potatoes, carrots and swede all make a tasty mash and are packed with goodness. A great way to get your 5 a day.
